On the Night Train

What cargo do you carry as you come barreling through?
Is it good or ill to seal my destiny desperately or in ecstasy?
What passengers ride along and do they belong to the night
Or to the light? Are they kind enough to mind themselves?
And do you bring grain for the hungry soul or only pain?
Nothing is plain to see in such numinous rain; it’s insane!
But, then, what should one expect . . .? It is the night train

  1. Very nice: I remember those old trains rattling by. There was one, as regular as clockwork, went by at 3:00 am. The night it didn’t come, we all lay awake. There had been a big accident … we knew something had gone wrong.

    1. I can identify. I used to live near a railroad track and, interestingly enough, a train would come rolling along at about 3 a.m. each morning. I got so used to it that when it didn’t come by at its usual time, I actually woke up. I don’t know what happened, but the train NOT coming at its regular time disrupted my sleep, as if something was out of place. Strange how we become accustomed to such things.

    1. Thank you, Kamal… I really like the picture of the old steam train barrelling through to somewhere. I was fortunate to find it on Pixabay (an excellent source for copyright-free photos) Blessings to you!

      1. I’ve never been on a night train. We live close to trails right now and during the night only freight trains pass by. Fortunately we have double-glass windows 😉
