Angel Lover, Guardian Dear

I imagine I’ve discouraged you, so true to me, so untrue to you

I imagine I’ve made you cry, want to say goodbye, and fly away

I imagine I’ve made you ashamed, shame on me, I am to blame

Yet stay with me still to fill me with you in bright burning flame

Through an insane game of life while sipping ambrosia dripping

From your heavenly sweet lips in another fit of purest passion

That was fashioned by Eros for the satisfaction of deepest need

As you feed on me, feeding on you, ever true to love from above

Eyes That Do Not Lie

Eyes that do not lie, bold and gracious, both young and old

That hold me bound, hypnotically drowned in flowing love

From above all the wreckage of the world with a message

Of peace, goodwill, and much joy to fill my soul to fullness

In goodness as well, even as I kiss eyes that spy my heart

From the courts of heaven made real in such lovely appeal

That seals my destiny while singing songs of greatest cheer

Eyes that do not lie, bold and gracious, both old and young,

I have only begun to fall into your emerald-colored ocean

Where you hold me bound and drowning in your love . . .

Note: Although mine is different in tone and tenor, thank you goes out to Varnika Jain and her poem,The Eyes Do Deceive,” for inspiring my own verses on eyes, which I have always loved and considered “windows to the soul.”

Angels in the Netherworld: A Haibun

We sit round a low-burning fire at night, deep in the quagmires of Acheron, and I slowly look at my beautiful companions, all of them nonpareil numina. They watch me kindly, reassuringly, with eyes supernal. They smile now, ever so slightly, and tell me without speaking that our existence is not without meaning, and that our best efforts are not without hope.

Beds made of bulrushth1DNZ9ULH
And all the kingfishers call
As ospreys fly low
Around the cypress and ash
As sun paints horizon far

I lay weary head in the lap of one of my guardians dear, and feel one strong and gentle hand caress my face, while the other covers my beating heart. And I close my eyes. In the belly of hell, I am safe. I sleep in peace.
