The Price You Pay

Oh the price you pay today for happiness without satisfaction

For your joy is not joy, just a toy with which to fiddle like a riddle

But you can never solve this puzzle since you muzzled Wisdom

And drove her into the ground without a sound, pound for pound,

And you’ve taken leave of your sense, sit in a corner and grieve,

While fair young Peace stands ready to give you new lease on life

Not rife with pain without gain and no strife, gift of gold not cold

If only you’ll make bold to kneel and kiss his tender, lovely feet

And wrap tightly round him, within him, bound to him forever

And to never pay so high a price for what only looks to you nice

Ode to Light and Life

So often haughty and arrogant under the guise of humility,

Wayward in my soul and mind, and anything but sublime,

Chasing empty dreams, cream of fantasy, so unfulfilling,

Entrapped by my own futile imagination in utter rejection

Of truth in the light of eternity shone by God, who is life,

To only exist in pain, lame in spirit, dying without living,

Not having courage for honesty, nor bravery for sanctity,

Weeks and years have been awash in meaninglessness,

Yet now is the precise time to believe, to trust and to work

As if there is no longer any tomorrow to happily prepare

With complete lack of despair, yet with intention to repair

So carefully what was nearly undone so very long ago,

And so now, too, there is hope within griping darkness

As the Light finally begins to shine, first through a crack,

Promising daylight when rises the everlasting Son of Life

To give life to this self-wounded soul to make it whole,

And the adventure continues on . . .

Hole in My Heart: Longing

Hole in my heart blown apart by life in the world around me

Into which we’ve been hurled by Necessity’s unfeeling hands

With bands wrapped round the whole of my soul for control

By an unseen dark fiend like an unredeemed mournful man

And so my somber spirit longs to belong to some sweet song

Of salvation’s keep within the deep recesses of heaven’s store

Like ne’er before in adoring only you my truest Companion

So handsomely arrayed in gold-laid finery with Self so filled

With Life and Light and Love and Truth and Beauty as well

Singer of Light, Bright Bringer of Smiles

Born of the bright sun, giver of light, incarnate Bhaskara

Child divine, meek and mild, so strong, an ever-new song

My delight to stay the night, illumining my darkened soul

While the whole of your life given so free for me yet to be

At liberty from the ravages of time in chime with eternity

Yet speak to me, please, of Bhagavan and love and peace

That will never cease to flow from celestial throne above

And tell me your tales never heard by the ear of my heart

And grant me the better part of truth undistorted by ages

And self-crowned sages, theologians and priests of shame

Who blame what you came to reclaim in the bless’d name

Of the One who created life to shine with joy and laughter

And tell me you’re much more and other than definitions

Of men who prey on guilt, fear and threats of damnation

As they inflame their own pride while they hide the truth

Of who you are … singer of light bringing light and smiles

April Showers: Escapril Challenge 2

You don’t remain too much the same in the cleansing rains

Of the showers of April that bless bowers, trees and flowers

Even as you turn your face to heaven to find another place

Far from this world of care, which you can no longer bear

With the tear in your soul only the heavens can ever repair

By administration of holy water upon the altar of your head

In upturned supplication, contrition, and loving disposition

To truly, freely receive these once-and-again April showers
