Beyond the Tower

The tower stands dark and foreboding, tall and strong,
And I can’t climb the walls no matter how much I long,
And so trapped inside I cry for help to right the wrong;
So one day soon I will once again join the joyful throng

Yes, these walls stretch up into the sky
So far above me and I understand why:
That no resident will ever say goodbye

But the builder never counted on wings
To bring this man out with song to sing,
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia to God ‘n king!

So help me now my Lord, even now to set me free
To be all that you would have me be, with reverie
Beyond these cold walls for all of the world to see!

Welcome to the City of Light

Welcome to the City of Light where bright rules the day
Every step along the way, where the soul can safely stay,
Where one can rest in an extraordinary nest of serenity,
Where there is plenty of love and peace that never cease
Here in this place, where the pace is slow and beautiful,
And joy dutiful to attend every step and the mind is kept
From all alarm as fear is dispersed by the light ever near
To the heart with no false start in any part of joyous day;
And where the night is absent of all fright and very calm,
Which is a healing balm to the soul … in the City of Light

Let Me Rise Above as I Lay Me Down

I lay my life down in your arms, O Beauty and Peace,
So be gracious to grant me rest and on life new lease

Crown me with your love in this forlorn town of humanity,
And drive away the insanity as I now lose all of my vanity,
And bold let me enter your fold for there is rest, I am told,
And there mold me and make me like you, ever so divine

And as I walk these paths and talk with pilgrims who balk
At the idea of any tranquility with hostility and no humility,
Let me not be ensnared in their claptrap, but rise above
Such fray to your love this very day along life’s terrible way

I lay my life down in your arms, O Beauty and Peace,
So be gracious to grant me rest and on life new lease

After such great turmoil graciously grant the best of rest
In your numinous nest, and to be gone with soul festering;
Let me find merciful safety in your hands and loving bands
While the sands of time slowly fall through the hourglass
Of heaven leavened with passion that shall not pass me by

I lay my life down in your arms, O Beauty and Peace,
So be gracious to grant me rest and on life new lease

Curse of the Flesh

I could never imagine some greater hell on earth
To test all of my worth than having rest and sleep
Kept out of reach, but this too shall teach and pass

Alas, my body is racked with pain making insane
What was wholly taken for granted for all of my life,
And it cuts like a knife, deep and hard for this bard

And do I cry for mercy now? Yes, as I humbly bow
To the only Power that can face my body’s rebellion
And overcome some sweet day I do hope and pray

So much time seems to have passed and yet not long,
For it is only months that I have been sore plagued,
Gnashing my teeth, anxiety crashing in on me, I see

But it feels like an eternity, this my curse of the flesh

High Into the Sky

You take me high into the sky
To say ‘goodbye’ to this world
In some timeless space in pace
With the wind round the bend
Of clouds in our proud defiance
Of reliance upon materialism
Of any kind now with my mind
Being freed to feed upon peace
Freely given by you to enliven
Along with your love above all
As I answer the call to sail high
And say ‘goodbye’ to the world
For some timeless time where
Clocks no longer chime in life
Lived now in serene eternity
Within the stream of dreams
Drinking the cream of heaven
With you as my only Beloved
As we fly high up into the sky
Oh so high up in the sky to fly

All Will Be Well

When life seems so confusing, all I have to do is look to you;
In your eyes you hold all of my thoughts and every emotion
And all of the commotion and turmoil raging in my own soul,
And your smile and gentle touch does much to calm my fears,
And you wipe away every tear and hear all of my concerns,
Like mother with child so weak and mild, your bosom strong,
And long do you listen and glisten with peace and serenity,
Which flow from your heart into the low places of my own,
Where seeds of love are sown from the high heavens above;
Ah! When life seems like a mess, I only have to confess to you,
And suddenly I am caught up into the stream of your dream
For me alone, and I know then all will be well in you alone . . .

The Project

Millions pray, millions cry, many even die
All for wars to cease and for peace to reign,
And the truth is most people do get along
Just as fine as well-aged wine and would
Gladly dine with one another in harmony;
So who is it that incites violence and war?
Who first tore the delicate fabric of peace?
We need a new lease on life in this world,
And this is the daunting project haunting
And taunting those of us who love to love
And live in serenity with all of humanity;
Ah! But this is quite a feat even as we hear
The drumbeat of the battles to be fought
By those who have been sold and bought
And brought into the service of those who
Will never see the field soaked with blood;
Most of those who have seen the horror
Of war want war no more for they know
How high the price to pay
And will not roll the dice!
Oh, but somebody does . . . who are they?
And how do they hold at bay peace
In our day; how do they block the way?
Ah! How do we go about this, our Project?

There is a Place Called Peace

There is a place called Peace, where living waters never cease to flow
And you’ve led me here, away from fear, where your winds ever blow
And there is no end to wonder with you so near and so much to show
So I can wander freely, at liberty, beneath emerald eyes I so well know
Here every season lives, from spring to winter with freshly fallen snow

Here the wasted land is far away
Here the dæmons are held at bay
Here a calm comes with each day
Here the balm is found in the way
Here are only gentle words to say

And you’ve brought me here so dear to this place I’d never have found
Though I’ve sought Peace all of my life, but to you I’m now ever bound
You are the Peace of this place in time and space, with beauty crowned
And you’ve opened yourself as your name is round the earth renowned
So I rest, sing and rejoice, and bring my very soul to this sacred ground

And I dream in your gaze ~ mystic maze ~ and drink the cream of life . . .

Every Breath

With every breath I breathe, I breathe you in,
And every thought begins and ends with you,
And I am brought to an unsought paradise
With numinous treasures for my pleasure,
Such that there is no measure for this joy
That I enjoy with you, O Beloved, with no end;
And heaven sends rains of peace and serenity
In plenty so I am never empty of tranquility
In company with you, who fills my life to full;
. . .
With every breath I breathe, I breathe you in,
And every thought begins and ends with you
